Tagging
for Proper Cattle ID |
| Tagging your
feedlot cattle for proper identification can have
several benefits for your operation:
Individual cattle identification can help you keep
more accurate records. By tracking each steer,
you can record data and events as they occur.
You can then utilize the information you have recorded
to help evaluate performance and make management
decisions.
- In date (or birth date) and in weights and
market date and weight, can help you calculate
days on feed, ADG, and performance in your feedlot for
individual animals. Utilizing this
information can show you the costs (or lost
profit) of poor doing cattle that are on feed
longer.
- Treatment records for individual animals
(implants, vaccinations, medications administered,
etc.) can help you better manage your feedlot and
insure that animals receive the necessary
treatments at the appropriate times. It also
can help reduce costs by not treating the same
animal twice or by repeating unnecessary
treatments.
- You can also monitor performance of cattle if
you obtain them from different sources and use
this data for comparison.
